Everything has changed. God isn’t surprised. Let’s come together and create something new.
Have you ever moved? The first thing most people do is sort through their stuff: “Keep this, donate that, garage sale all that stuff in that pile over there….”
After the garage sale is over and you look at that pile of stuff you don’t want anymore on the lawn? If you’re like us, we vow that it is NEVER coming back inside! To preserve the work that has been done by purging and sorting:
“Leave it on the lawn. I’ll put it on Craigslist for free!”
I mean, who even cares if the sprinklers turn on? Just don’t ruin all the change we made—-returning to normal would ignore the effort, growth, and time invested in preparing for something new.
2021: So maybe your church has started meeting in person again, but Children’s & Youth Ministry? What should that look like? We’re all operating in a million different contexts: you’re outside, inside, distanced, virtual, in parking lots, front yards, living rooms, and theaters. Masks, no masks, singing, no singing, feeling all intact or exhausted from the trauma of a year turned upside down. Perhaps you are burnt out and tired after creating a hundred videos to send out to a virtual audience when you wanted to be looking into the eyes of a room full of children.
What do you need to leave on the lawn? What gets to come back inside?
And what new elements need to be added to usher in a new season, honoring the change we’ve all experienced?
Our churches are not the same as they were before this pandemic. And life will not and should not return to normal.
Let’s restart together. We don’t want you to have to do this alone. We will be better together.
