Summer Theme: Who God Is.

GOD Is... (1).png
Your children need to know who God is. I’m convinced of it. I hope you are too. We live in a time of rapid change, development, and adversity and there will be no greater gift you can give your children or grandchildren than to know who God is.

I found myself sitting on the floor outside ICU waiting for good news. For weeks I stood in hallways and slept in uncomfortable vinyl chairs of the hospital waiting room, talking to doctors, surgeons, considering what felt like a million decisions.. Praying. Hoping. Crying. Discovering strength inside us me I didn’t know existed.

There was one day I walked the halls watching so many others come and go and this thought came to me, a whispered prayer, “I’m really glad I already know who you are. I don’t think this would be the moment to be figuring this out. I need you. This is why people need to know you long before they really need you.”

I’ve spent my life making sure children know that God loves them and is with them. I remembered the hundreds of times I’d said to rooms full of children, “You are a child of God. God is crazy about you. He is an up close-and-with-us God, not a far away God. He knows every hair on your head. God even knows how many freckles are on my arms! (An infinite number, really.) God is with you in the bath tub, He’s with you at school, you are never alone and always loved. No matter what.”

I had been given a gift to know who God is. It was a gift was planted inside of me when I was a young girl by my parents, my Sunday School teachers, by my church aunts-uncles-grandparents who shared their faith with me, their passion for who Jesus is and was and will be for us.

The verses I memorized as a child? They are treasures planted in my soul.

“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your path straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

So here we are. You may find yourself in the midst of a personal crisis, or maybe you’re playing in the sprinklers and making the best of quarantine summer. Regardless of your current circumstances, we feel that one of the most important elements of this summer could be conversations about who God is as experienced as a family together.

Your children need to know who God is. I’m convinced of it. I hope you are too. We live in a time of rapid change, development, and adversity and there will be no greater gift you can give your children or grandchildren than to know who God is. I can’t think of anything you could do that would reap a greater reward than spending this summer investing in the spiritual development of your family.

We’ve crafted summer REViBRANt Family Nights to guide you through key messages & stories in the Bible that reveal who God is and why we can trust Him.

We’re going to grow together this summer through REViBRANt experiences. Will you join us?
